Sense Scotland works with children, young people and adults who have communication support needs. We believe everyone should have the choice in how they live their life. We are committed to working to our core values and working principles. Be open and honest, recognise individual worth, build relationships through trust, act on the basis of individuals’ aspirations and needs, be accountable.

Sense Scotland have 2 volunteering opportunities for which they are recruiting:

Play Activities Assistant is an opportunity to become part of the Early Years Team, volunteering directly with young children up to the age of 8 with various disabilities and additional support needs. Our Play Activities Volunteers’ friendliness and enthusiasm help the children to explore different activities, encourages them to interact and play with others and to have fun.

While the staff will lead each session, the volunteers play a very important role in keeping children and their family members engaged, You will help set up the space, chat with all present, be hands-on with activities and help review the successes and learning after each session. Initially staff will plan all activities. However volunteers will have the option to suggest and prepare activities themselves, for example if they have a hobby that they are passionate about that can be shared with the children. We are always open to new ideas! No experience needed as training will be given.

Shop Volunteers play a vital role in maintaining Sense Scotland’s charity shops. Between our 18 shops over £1million is raised each year to support our important work. Volunteer tasks will be allocated by the shop manager/assistant manager and while no two days will be the same, tasks will include serving & assisting customers, helping to sort donations, tagging & hanging clothing, steaming clothing, working the till, arranging & replacing stock, helping to tidy the shop and encouraging customers to sign up to the retail Gift Aid scheme.

You will have the opportunity to meet lots of new people and play an active role in your community. A member of staff will be on shift to support you at all times. Time commitment is flexible, although ideally volunteers will be able to make a weekly commitment. The number 22 bus stops just outside the shop.

We are looking for volunteers with an interest in retail, who enjoy working with the public and as part of a team. No specific experience is required as training will be given.
