Many women are not aware that lifestyle factors can impact on their risk of developing breast cancer. We are looking for volunteers to be part of an exciting project delivering telephone support around lifestyle change to women of breast screening age (50 – 70 years).

ActWELL is a research trial that aims to provide lifestyle advice to women of breast screening age. Lifestyle telephone coaches will support the successful delivery of the ActWELL trial by providing telephone support to trial participants receiving the lifestyle intervention.

Trial participants will have already received 2 face to face counselling sessions with an ActWELL Lifestyle Coach. Telephone coaches will be trained to continue supporting trial participants to sustain goals set on lifestyle change with a focus on physical activity, diet and body weight. Phone support sessions can take place at home, volunteers will be provided with a pre-paid mobile phone.

We’re looking for volunteers with experience in counselling or coaching, an interest in health and lifestyle and a passion to make a difference to women’s lives. We want to attract people who are friendly, professional and empathetic. Good listening skills and the ability to motivate others; Friendliness, enthusiasm and reliability; Empathy and understanding towards others.

We expect that volunteers will need to commit between 2-3 hours per week (to make telephone calls, write up notes and return paperwork to the trial team.)

A 2 day training workshop will take place in Dundee.
