Review – Youth Volunteering Awards 2017
When starting my post in May, I was excited yet slightly nervous of having the responsibility of organising the Youth Volunteering Awards. I had never planned an event to this scale before but I was looking forward to the challenge and learning something new.
First thing on the “to do list” was to organise a fundraiser which we decided was a quiz night at the Fort Hotel. This went really well and we made a total of £410 and was an enjoyable evening for all who joined! The next thing we had to do was to complete the panels for the awards. Although it was initially challenging at first, we eventually got enough nominations to do the panel with our lovely new Youth Ambassadors Sophie, Raisah, Emily and Saarah being the panellists. This was an incredibly hard process as all of the nominations were at a very high standard – it was an extremely close call for some of the awards! Once the panels finished and the winners were decided, the venue was booked, the invitations were sent, the plaques and trophies were ordered and the decorations and reception were sorted, we even bough a personalised Instagram especially for the event!
The evening of the awards arrived and I was a bag of nerves but very excited. Everything was in place and ready and (hopefully!) would all go to plan. The guests arrived, all dressed to impress, and everyone had a great time! Our host, Chelsea, and our entertainment, Ciaran, did a fantastic job with Elaine Milne (who also sponsored our Summit Awards), Volunteer Dundee’s Eric Knox and the Lord Provost presenting and announcing the winners of the awards. On the evening we awarded 8 Saltire Summit Awards, the Youth Volunteering Team Award and the Youth Friendly Organisation. All in all, the evening was a success and I am a very happy Youth Volunteering Worker!
Thank you to everyone who has supported the whole process and I will be back again for the Youth Volunteering Awards in 2018!
