Louise Johnstone is nominated for the Kathryn Mackenzie Make A Difference Award for developing Dundee Mental Health Awareness Week – Heart Tay Heart.

Louise started trying to raise the conversation around mental health after increasing awareness and funds for a local mental health charity, Dundee Association for Mental Health (DAMH). She had a vision to establish Dundee’s very own mental health awareness week by bringing people together to allow their voices to be heard through an exhibition.

One of the exhibitions involved more than 900 people (men, women, adults, children and elderly) submitting masks to be incorporated in ‘The Many Faces of Dundee Mask Exhibition’ to raise awareness of mental health. Louise did all of this in her spare time, overcame logistical challenges and project hurdles – all whilst remaining positive despite her own mental illness. Her dedication has even inspired participation; where a striking number of people took part in the demonstration and even put their names on their masks!

Louise shows great attributes for a finalist in this category and we wish her luck at the upcoming award ceremony!
