Nominated for the Kathryn MacKenzie Make A Difference Award is John Reilly from Addaction.

John has been volunteering with Addaction for 5 years but before this, used the service himself for support in overcoming his own personal battles. Once in recovery, John was determined to give back through volunteering to help others recovering. Some of the projects he is involved in include volunteering within the Community Hub to promote, underpin and enhance Addaction’s vision, providing a listening ear to vulnerable individuals, working alongside project workers who run 1:1 sessions and being involved in the Tay View Gardens Project. Despite working full-time, he manages to balance these, whilst attending social nights, galas, meetings, trainings and raising funds which shows his incredible dedication to Addaction!

In all of these activities John goes above and beyond by drawing from, and sharing personal experience – something which has broken down barriers for many people requiring support! Volunteering has also enabled him to build on his self-esteem and become a role model for staff, volunteers and service users.

We wish John the best of luck at the 2019 Volunteer Awards!
