Why do people volunteer?
- To do something worthwhile
- Make a difference
- Gain work experience or training
- Meet new people
- As a stepping stone to lots of other things
What's involved?
- On average only 2-3 hours per week
- Training is often provided
- Police checks and vetting if you're going to work with vulnerable people (but having a police record won't necessarily prevent you from volunteering)
- Some patience, it might take one or two attempts to find what's right for you
