Tayside Council on Alcohol Link Up Mentoring Training starting January 2010
A 5 week training programme is starting the end of January to prepare new mentors for Link Up programme. Link Up is a young person's service that aims to support young people who are experiencing issues within their lives. The role of the volunteer in the befriending and mentoring relationship is to provide informal social support. The relationships are goal oriented trying to help the young person to achieve specific goals. The mentors and mentees generally meet up once a week for about 2 to 3 hours, spending time together in a variety of leisure activities (such as playing snooker, going to the cinema, walking dog in the park, going for a drive, going out for a meal) during which time they can talk about what is going on for the young person. Having your own transport would be beneficial.
