Volunteering Opportunities – Dundee Therapy Garden
Dundee Therapy Garden is a mental health charity providing Horticultural Therapy to veterans of the Armed Forces and Uniformed Services. We use gardening activities to facilitate improvements in mental and physical health and social functioning. We work from a purpose built site in Dudhope Park. Many volunteers are engaged in working directly with veterans but many other opportunities are also available.
Veterans Mentor – Therapeutic Gardening
This role presents a good opportunity to develop skills and experience in supporting people with mental health problems whilst learning about therapeutic gardening. We need a friendly, supportive and compassionate person to facilitate and support our therapeutic sessions with veterans. Active listening and a sense of humour are necessary tools, however, everything else can be learned. You will be expected to reinforce positive lifestyle messages and support veterans during their sessions, including maintaining a tidy and secure working environment.
IT Support Volunteer
We need a friendly, IT literate person to facilitate and support our work with veterans. Volunteering in this role will involve helping to establish and maintain our IT systems and website, including social media. This role represents an opportunity to gain experience in providing IT and website support to a small organisation supporting people with mental health difficulties.
We need a friendly, accounts-literate person to facilitate and support our work with veterans. Based at the garden, you will help develop and maintain our financial records and book-keeping, including petty cash and accounts, in support of our new treasurer. This flexible role will involve providing essential back-office support to allow the charity to function effectively.
