Robin Paterson is one of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award finalists nominated for his 40 years’ voluntary service to Dundee!

Robin began volunteering as a coach for the S3 and S4 basketball teams when he was in his 5th year at Menzieshill High School in 1975. From simply volunteering a couple of hours a week at the school basketball club, he claims his volunteering spiralled out of control. Following this, he represented Menzieshill Basketball Club on the Menzieshill Community Centre House Committee. His committee work has not stopped there either, with him also being a member of DALMG, Dundee West Regeneration Forum and most recently Dundee North West Community Sports Hub. These activities have been invaluable helping to secure funding for many projects in Dundee’s West End.

Robin’s devotion to volunteering in Dundee is also reflected through the progression of Madsons Basketball Club. What started out as a one hour a week class for 10-12yr olds which he set up, 15 years later the group has become one of the biggest development clubs in Scotland – with classes on everyday of the week across Dundee! Since its start-up the club has competed in the Scottish National league and has produced international players at all ages as well as coaches and officials.

Good luck at the Volunteer Awards Robin!
