Be Inspired!
HarryHarry Nunn at 88 may be the oldest volunteer in Dundee but it certainly does not show. Harry's doctor recommended volunteering after his wife passed away. Being very experienced with horses the Brae Riding Centre seemed the obvious choice. He has never looked back since. Not only has it helped to fill a gap in his life he has made lots of new friends too. "I would recommend it to anyone with time on their hands to get out and get involved. I can pass on my knowledge and experience to the younger volunteers and would say you are never too young or too old in my case to volunteer!" |

RebeccaRebecca visited us when she was in her 3rd year at college. She wanted to get a work placement. We helped her to find a suitable volunteering placement at Circles Around. She has been volunteering with them for one day a week ever since and has recently achieved her 200 hour MV Certificate. Rebecca says: " Volunteering is really worth doing. If you are bored in the house during the summer it's good to get out and do something worthwhile. I work with people and every day is different. I am really proud of achieving my MV Awards."

MarkVolunteering helped Mark back into employment. Mark visited us after being unemployed for about a year.We were able to match him up with an opportunity with the Barnardos Space Project. Mark had skills and experience that he was able to use in his volunteering. "I volunteered with one charity and got a job with another!. I started to volunteer after approaching the Volunteer Centre and got information for the type of volunteering similar to my last paid employment. It shows a commitment and gave me some up to date experience and the good thing is now I have a paid job - but I am still volunteering. I would recommend it to everyone." |
StevenVolunteering has really helped to change Steven's life. With a background of addiction Steven in his own words was feeling pretty worthless. When he visited us at the Volunteer Centre his first question was "will anyone want me to volunteer?" We knew that there were organisations in Dundee that would take Steven on as a volunteer and as he was interested in animals sent him along to meet Mary Sneddon at the Brae Riding Partnership. Steven has been volunteering with them ever since. "I don't mind anyone knowing about my drug addiction if I can inspire someone else to get out the house and to make a change in their lives it's worth it. I come here 3 days a week and I feel valued but it's about the difference it makes to the people who come here for the riding that means so much to me."
