David Hay, Volunteer
Organisation
Youth Sports Development
What kind of volunteering do you do?
I mostly do football training during summer holidays and between term times.
Can you describe an average day in your volunteering life?
I start by helping set up the goals and marking out the outline of the pitch then take part in activities which involve warm ups, games and teaching techniques. I then help clear up at the end of the session.
Why do you volunteer ?
I volunteer to help me gain experience and confidence and it gives me something to do with my time and the opportunity to meet other people.
Do you think your volunteering makes a difference to others?
Volunteering makes a difference tot he organisation because it gives them an extra pair of hands helping out. It makes a difference to the children as they get more attention and help.
And finally, what do you personally get out of volunteering?
As I am unemployed it gives me something worth while to do with my time. It has given me the opportunity to work in sports development which I wouldn't of had otherwise. It has made me realise that I would like a career in sports development. It has also helped to build my confidence.
BECOME RICHER. WORK FOR NOTHING.
